2007 harvest completed successfully.
Wines with brilliant fruit.
All in all, we are satisfied with the 2007 vintage.
The year started with advance in vegetative development: early shoots, a warm spring and a hot July. This advance was slowly leveled out by a cool autumn, with the result that according to us the emphasis of this vintage and the most beautiful wines will be in the region of classic wines with around 12% alcohol.
The cool temperatures (around freezing at night) and the high, airy location of our vineyards meant that there was no botrytis this year. The grapes remained healthy, and that is wonderful for wines which give great drinking satisfaction. In our region it was not the year for the most powerful wine styles, or for sweet wines.
The first barrel samples inidcate that generally the fruit of these wines is extraordinarily clear and straight. Throughout the history of our winery there are only few vintages showing so much character, personality, finesse, density, and mineral character at such as low alcohol levels - generally around 12%.
The development of the red wines fills us with gread confidence. The early shooting and long vegetation period were clearly an advantage for them.
The last round of harvesting was wonderful. We harvested incredibly fine grapes from the vineyards Lamm, Käferberg, and Heiligenstein and were only just unlucky with our Muskateller: at -5°C it was cold enough for our harvesters to get blue noses, but just too warm for bringing in an ice wine (which could have been harvested at -7°C, when the sugar-rich berries freeze). Still, we expect a wonderful Muskateller 2007 and overall a beautiful range of wines. |
