During the last week we could make use of the dry weather and harvest our two exceptional Grüner Veltliner from the Käferberg and Lamm vineyards without any botrytis. This would have rounded off the 2007 harvest - were it not for the Muskateller grapes still in the vineyards.

According to the Austrian Meteorological Institute in Vienna, temperatures of minus 7 to 8 degrees Celsius are expected for the night from Tuesday to Wednesday. We will try to harvest an ice wine, just as we did in 2005. We will keep you informed...

According to Austrian wine law, ice wine must be made out of grapes which were frozen during the harvest and pressing and show a minimum must weight (sugar content) of 25°. The time of harvest is strictly controlled by the authorities. Only the water freezes inside the grapes, leaving the sugary extract to flow from the presses like fine oil. The frozen water remains in the press.
