It can be nerve racking to leave out grapes in the vineyard so late in the year. Almost everywhere in the Kamptal, harvesting is finished. The first young wines are on the market. The harvest also secures income for family and employees for an entire year.

It is therefore a considerable risk to leave grapes out in November. Will rain, birds, deer, or storms destroy the remaining harvest?

A winemaker needs a very equal temper and an inclination to risk to have a chance in this game, to get the ultimate of finesse, depth and refinement into a wine and express its very highest qualities.

This week we will begin to harvest at the Heiligenstein. We are still waiting with parts of our Grüner Veltliner on the Loiser Berg, Käferberg and Lamm vineyards. The Muskateller grapes are also still hanging demurely on their vines. This grape will yield a sweet wine this year - or at least that´s what we hope.
