The harvest so far is characterized by excellent qualities and very small yields.
The grapes have an incredibly fine fruit, very promising for the future
wines. We have now harvested about half our wines, and it appears that
we have to count a drop in 30 to 40% in yield compared to 2004.
24 and 25 October were the last days of the Pinot Noir harvest. After
this, it’s Grüner Veltliner and Riesling Kamptaler Terrassen.
For the great wines, one more step will be necessary. If Petrus is
listening in the heavens, what we would need is a cool, dry wind. The
coming two or three weeks will decide whether the best wines of this
vintage will really be great, or merely decent. The most exciting days
of the year are still ahead!
More next week. |
