Before the Last Lap…

The grapes still hanging in the vineyards have not yet reached a concentration sufficient for Beerenauslese and Trockenbeerenauslese. We have to wait until they have dried out further.

Meanwhile, we have plenty of things to do: repairs in the vineyards, degorging the sparkling wine, filling the red, etc…

Surveying the 2005 harvest, the fermentation and the begin of malolactic fermentation is as challenging as it is rewarding.

The low temperatures make it possible that there will be ice wines. Unfortunately, our more elevated vineyards are for once at a disadvantage, as the cold air flows into the valley and creates “cold air lakes” there. Vineyards of usually lower quality are actually better situated for ice wines. If, however, we should manage an ice wine in our great vineyards the result will be all the more outstanding.
