Grüner Veltliner Berg Vogelsang 2009
The “Langenloiser Berg-Vogelsang” is situated on the Loiser Mountain. It hosts a very diverse population of birds The vineyard bends towards the southwest and borders a mixed forest. The soil consists of a variety of mica schist called “Gföhler Gneiss” some of the amphibolite stones in the vineyards even contain garnets.
Grapes are normally harvested physiologically ripe at the middle of October. In 2009 we had for the beginning of November the get perfect ripeness and full flavor. The wine is fermented at semi-cool temperatures between 15-20°C before being racked into large oak casks for a few weeks of further maturation. To retain its primary fruit this Veltliner is bottled rather early, just at the point when the acidity has lost its aggressive touch.
Alcohol: 12,5 % - Acidity: 5,2 g - extra dry
Yield: ca. 3000 liters per hectare
Tasting note: lively and pure aromas of citrus, pears and fresh apples as well as a bouquet of flowers, some yeasty element in a younger state of ripeness, then fine string of minerals on the palate and typical peppery spice; completely dry and also therefore medium bodied, with again sappy fruit, not opulent yet dense in structure , a very long and elegant mineral finish. A classic single vineyard GV of primary rock.
Food pairing: chameleonic partner to food; try with seafood or cold starters, exotic dishes if not all too spicy, Austrian cuisine, cold meat, smoked trout, roasted pork or veal, chicken. |
