Before the beginning of summer on 20 July, the last of the vineyards have shed their blossoms. What a pity! The delicate fragrance of the blossoms vanishes from between the lines of vines.
We can book our harvesters already now: in Langenlois, the main harvest takes place almost always about a hundred days after the end of blossoming.
The end of blossoming also marks the beginning of shaking the grapes. – Why does the wine grower shake his grapes in such a curious way?
He wants to know, how many unfertilized or insufficiently fertilized berries fall to the ground. The berries remaining on the plant can be harvested later.
The insufficient fertilization of berries has its cause in weather that is too cold or too hot. In 2008, this much is clear already now, the prognosis for Langenlois is a positive one. So positive, in fact, that we will have to cut down or diminish bunches of grapes in order to maintain the highest qualities.
There is a lot of work to be done during next weeks. |
