The First Shoots
The First Shoots

The most beautiful moment of the year in the vineyard - the moment, when after the swelling of the buds there are only a few days left until the first, light green shoots appear and the first tiny grapes become visible.

Turbo Shooting

This year the shoots emerged from the old wood as if they had been propelled by rocket fuel.  The combination of a wet winter and a warm April led to a fast start, ideal for a high-quality 2009 vintage.

For wine growers, the days leading up to the middle of May particularly tense, as they bring the likelihood of last frost, and the possibility of losing an entire harvest within a single frosty night.

The next step will be thinning out the shoots. Per meter of vines we leave eight to ten beautiful shoots, the rest is taken off. Later in the summer, the foliage will by airy and open.

This is the first step to harvesting great qualities.
